Hypocrisy RecognizedReader comment on item: An International Law to Respect Religion? Submitted by Monte Gardner (United States), Mar 22, 2008 at 11:51 Wow. I think this situation underscores the terrible hypocrisy of all the fuss over "insults to Islam". Weekly sermons, television shows, and even childrens cartoons dehumanizing Jews and others, calls to violence and genocide, and general all around demeaning attitudes from Muslims to others - and they get up in arms about a Teddy Bear or a cartoon. The good news is that atleast this Consultative Council recognizes some sort of reciprocity here. They recognize that if there is a rule preventing us from criticizing them, then that rule must also affect their freedom to criticize others. Such an understanding about the universality of law is one of the first steps towards democratic thinking.
