Reader comment on item: Knights Templar Trial Records Made Public – After Seven Centuries
in response to reader comment: Spoken like a true Freemason

The Knights Templar were Catholic, and were defenders of the faith. Freemasons do not engage in religious wars. Although all Masons believe in a 'Diety'.. The name, and ritual of worship is of no concern to the Order, only that the Mason believe in a Supreme Being. This gives us Freedom of Religion enshrined in our Bill of Rights, a distinctly Masonic concept. In 1717, the Freemasons in England became the Free and Accepted Masons. This egalitarian move opened up Philosophical Freemasonry to all men regardless of station in life. It was this "Unification" , which I believe, gave impetus to both the American Revolution and the French.
