Having visited Paris on numerous occasions, I have always been apprehensive of the road conditions and standard of driving, which is poor and aggressive throughout the capital. The Alma tunnel struck me as particularly dangerous even prior to the infamous crash, and excessive speed seemed to me to be the norm. However, even if a road accident was staged, that would be a most unreliable method of disposing of any troublesome individual. One man emerged alive from that devastation. An explosion, attributable to the Provisional IRA would have been a plausible echo of the murder of Earl Mountbattens party at Mullaghmore. I imagine professional assassins would know their own business best.
