Saudi funding for Middle East Studies is often conjunction with organisations like the IIIT (International Institute of Islamic Thought) who openly states that their goal is to "Islamise knowledge". Besides the fact that this is antithetical to the spirit of free inquiry which is vital to education, any school which has taken Saudi funding for a Middle East Studies department or chair has in essence become part of the Islamic Wakf.
