Muslims would ratherReader comment on item: There Are No Moderates: Dealing with Fundamentalist Islam Submitted by Mai (United Arab Emirates), Feb 26, 2006 at 03:38 I as an Arab Muslim find it extremely funny and ironical that Westerners think that they know what we want. We always hear Westerners say that "Muslims would rather.... or that is only a small group of Muslims but the majority would rather....."and most of the time their statements are very far from the truth. What gives the West the right to determine the way we live our lives? The irony here is that the West supposedly believes in people's right to self-determination, state-sovereignty and freedom of faith, so why try to impose your beliefs on us. Just let us be. The West doesn't put any effort in understanding us, we and our causes are constantly represented out of context. We are always looked at from a Western perspective. the West always thinks that they know what's best for the world but in fact they don't because the majority of Westerners look at the world from a Western viewpoint, and mostly out of the regional and cultural context, which therefore makes their judgments biased and makes them completely unaware of both the wishes and needs of the people in question. so my message to the West is keep out of our business and let us be , and if you insist on interfering then at least try to trouble yourselves with trying to know more about the areas under question. Some one might say that we have to interfere because the region is the source of terrorism but isn't terrorism a response of Western intervention and domination of the region. Bin laden and others have been created by the West to serve its aims, so don't blame us and our religion for that it's you that created them, naturally and unfortunately you have to suffer the consequences. I know I used the word West but that doesn't mean that I think all Westerners are like this, I just used it to simplify my idea. I don't like generalizations and hate making them so if I have then I apologize. Submitting....
