Reader comment on item: [William Blum and] Al-Qaeda's Leftist Brigade
in response to reader comment: Criticism is easy

I reckon none of the ...writers in this column have ever seen Blum's book, never mind read it. After taking the time to buy and read it I can say that Blums views are not from some rabble rouser but steeped in American interferance. Nearly every conflict since the year 1900 has had an American hand supplying weapons, assassinating democratically elected governments or supporting groups to overthrow their governments.

Some foreign intervention was for the benefit of the majority such as helping the Europeans against Hitler. However the Cold War saw America lose its holier then thou image with wars in Vietnam (3+ Million killed) supporting Suharto in Indoenesia, Mobutu in Congo and a host and range of other evil dictators propped up and supplied with Amierican made weapons to kill in order to maintain American intersts in that region (food, oil, gas, timer etc).

So after reading this book I can confidently say that my preception of America has changed. No longer do I think of it as a regime that will help those who love democracy but rather I will identify it with greed and manipulation.
