Criticism is easy

Reader comment on item: [William Blum and] Al-Qaeda's Leftist Brigade

Submitted by Gunther Steinberg (United States), Jan 24, 2006 at 13:10

History proves Blum quite correct about "American Empire". We have a regretable history of interfering in other country's affairs under the guise of fighting "communism" or similar pretexts.

Most of these interferences were done for commercial purposes of oil supply, mineral interests etc. at the behest of large corporations or newspaper propaganda campaigns (1898-Cuba).

The US has usually acted with a lack of understanding the history or culture of the countries targeted, or pure and simple empire building or safeguarding oil sources: Spanish American War, Chile, Iran.....

After 9/11, even Jim Lehrer (NewsHour) asked the same question that others did: "Why do they hate us so much?" - The US foreign policy has been the main factor, especially in the last 5 years. We have tended to back dictators around the globe, when it suited us: Iraq in the 1980s, Pinochet in Chile and many others.

So, do you have a more constructive comment justifying all these actions?
