Mysticism politicized

Reader comment on item: The Prophet's Night Journey; To Where?

Submitted by Shishir Rao (United Arab Emirates), Mar 7, 2022 at 12:07

It seems to be this is a purely mystical passage based on folklore and some lingering pagan magic beliefs intepersed with Judaic kabbalah(conversation with the prophets in heaven)

This had no political/regional or even perhaps Islamic implications . As with the Bible , the Quran is a compilation which suited the powers to be of that era, in this case the Ummayads as elaborated by Dr. Pipes who perhaps wished to break away from Mecca and establish either their own source of hajj revenue or genuine spiritual attachment to Jerusalem or a combination of both.
