The same mess happened when Fatima was still alive

Reader comment on item: Israeli Victory, Palestinian Prosperity
in response to reader comment: Israel's main problem is its violent neighbors

Dear Dr Pipes, your reader Jeff said in his message that Israel just elected a new PM after removing her previous PM. Jeff further asked if such a transition of power was possible in Islamic nations. I guess that for such a thing to happen in Islam, we will have to wait till hell freezes.

Islamic love for violent transition of power started while Muhammad was still alive. His daughter Fatima, at the first brush, was a good woman. She married one of Muhammad's cousins Ali. Ali was also a good man (definitely so by Islamic standards). Apparently, both Ali and Abubakr had some claim to power but a fight started. Abubakr won and Ali lost. But Islamic wars never end. Abubakr v Ali is still going on as Sunni v Shia. People are still getting killed.

Reader Jeff and rest of us will need to wait until hell freezes. Help us God.
