You say "if not for Covid" and you may be right, but not as you think. If Trump had not had a phobia about wearing a mask, but had set an example to all by wearing it, while refraining from inventing his own cranky medical advice, he might have been reelected. Instead, he made it a symbol of being a Trump supporter that you disdain masks. The result was that a stream of White House staff and visitors, Republican lawmakers and then - most laughable - Trump himself fell victim to the virus. Trump's mask phobia may have made him look both ridiculous and dangerous in the eyes of just enough voters to swing a narrow contest against him.
