Reader comment on item: Blowback from Criticizing Trump
in response to reader comment: Yeah, But. . . .

Ever since my first presidential election in 1976 I have registered as an independent. I know politics is the art of compromise, but I just couldn't get behind the complete package each party presents. In 1976 I voted a straight Republican ticket because, as a newcomer to the city I didn't really know the issues but I didn't like the fact that it was a one-party town run by the Democratic Party

.
For precisely the points Daniel Pipes makes in his post, I cannot vote Republican at the top of the ticket. I understand the logic of a non-vote being effectively a vote for the opposition. Since I am so certain that a Trump presidency would be a disaster I will likely vote for Hillary Clinton, not because I like her policies or have confidence in her integrity, but because I am afraid Trump might actually win if Republicans naively buy into the idea that wiser heads in the Party will reign him in.

I love my country and "more of the same" for the next four years," with perhaps a Republican Congress to temper excess, beats wildcard Trump hands down.
