The state of denial

Reader comment on item: Blowback from Criticizing Trump
in response to reader comment: Neither is not an option

Daniel PIpes: "That means focusing on Congress, the governorships, and the state legislatures, as well as building a strong conservative movement."

Focusing on Congress, governorships, and the state legislature are the objectives that cannot be achieved without building a strong conservative movement. This is why the building a strong conservative movement should be the first, not the last objective. Unfortunately, the intellectual conservative movement that started in 50s has clearly demonstrated that it is unable and maybe even unwilling to organize and lead the popular conservative movement. The Trump's success proves that there is a disconnect between intellectual and popular conservative movements. The intellectual conservative movement was not able to attract on its side even intellectual class let alone common people

This is the time when intellectual conservatives should have a critical look at the foundation of their ideology. Are we ready to start this discussion? Where? It is quite obvious that the National Review is not ready for this task. National Reviews is in a state of denial.
