Reader comment on item: Why Politicians Pretend Islam Has No Role in ISIS

Submitted by Dave (United States), Mar 9, 2015 at 21:11

No, it won't take hundreds of thousands more deaths from terrorism to effect political change. Change has been building, thanks to the publicity that TV and other media give to terrorism. As Obama aptly pointed out, "If it bleeds, it leads." Indeed, pollsters have found a clear and inexorable negative trend in public attitudes towards Islam. Since elections take place at much wider intervals than polls, there is a lag in time until public attitudes translate into regime change. But those regimes will change. For example, polls in France show a surge in the FN and the PVV leads in Holland. Eventually, all those clueless politicians will be history. Of course, it's not just thanks to TV, but also to those jihadis who are digging their own graves with a video-camera.
