To state that Islam has no role in violence is a remarkable proposition, one as absurd as saying that Communism has nothing to do with the writings of Karl Marx and that all the evils perpetrated by successions of its vile regimes were merely violent behaviour that could have happened anywhere and unrelated to the political and social message Das Kapital offered.
The current interpretation of Islam may be flawed, but its fundamental principles and teachings are there for all to see, and to pretend the contrary is rather ridiculous.

Well put. Of course, the grotesque failures of the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, and the many other "people's republics" had no bearing on the validity of Communism.
