Modi is to be congratulated on his election and his desire for a stronger relationship with Israel. It is in India's and Israel's best interests. Prior to his election, the "friendship" was an empty one really, other than a strong trading relationship it was a one-way street with India consistently siding with Israel's worst enemies to the point where it's representatives listened obediently and appreciatively when during a conference of the non-aligned nations in Iran, Iran's leader referred to Israel as the greatest cancer in the world. Some friend India is.

I take issue with the opposing parties' ridiculous statements concerning India's traditional support for humanitarianism and justice. When did India ever show concern for the inhumane way Palestinian terrorism, whether from the PA (under Arafat or Abbas) or Gaza targeted Israeli civilians mercilessly. They are a bunch of hypocrites and while I welcome a change from Modi, his refusal to condemn Israel does not mean he supports Israel's right to defend themselves against the same type of Islamic terrorism that so often victimizes India.

India's "friendship", as far as Israel is concerned, is economic and should never be seen as anything other than superficial.
