Surprising support and What does Hamas want

Reader comment on item: Surprising Support for Israel, not Hamas

Submitted by Sara Gon (South Africa), Jul 12, 2014 at 07:37

I agree with the analysis. I think the unravelling of the "Arab Spring" into wars of unconscionable brutality in Syria and Iraq may focus the minds on the real issue. Is there not something more Israel can do though to build on this in this environment?

I've had the impression, maybe incorrectly, that the recognition of the right of a Jewish state to exist has always been hidden in the thick of the periodic negotiation process to save Palestinian face that there has to be recognition and that the absolute right of return cannot happen.

Is it not appropriate now to say the right of a Jewish state to exist in safety is non-negotiable. After that, all else can be discussed. Am I being naive?

Good point, that the neighborhood in flames makes Israel stand out even more than before.
