The book the Satanic Verses was not great literature but Salman Rushdie indeed opened the flood gates for other Muslims to examine their religion with a microscope and the results are very interesting as in the case of the great web site

And this is indeed a very great review of the fable of the Satanic Verses and i suspect that this would not have happened just a few years ago

More interesting is that many Muslims are realizing that the Islamic tradition is full of embarrassing traditions and now we have this great facebook page where Muslims post about bizarre traditions transmitted by the likes of al-Bukhari and about bizarre fatwas

Again this would not have happened if Rushdie did not open the flood gates
