Actually, elected Islamists are Allah's best gift

Reader comment on item: Better Dictators than Elected Islamists

Submitted by Prashant (United States), Dec 11, 2012 at 23:42

Dear Dr Pipes:

In an interesting way elected Islamists are like Allah's true gift to mankind. Many of the core principles advocated by Islamists are fundamentally self defeatng. For example, cruel and unsual punishments (chopping of hands for stealing), discrimination against women (polygamy), and financial principles that lack understanding of finance (interest free financing) are anti-progress and any society that folows them is bound to lag behind. So it is much better if Islamists win elections, implement their policies, fail quickly, and are thrown out by the people than if a dictator controlling them and giving the people a chance to paint them as victims. So I think that though in the short term elected Islamists may appear to be worse than dictators, in the long run, their election are a blessing in disguise for both Muslims and non-muslims.
