Reader comment on item: Better Dictators than Elected Islamists

Submitted by Linda (United States), Dec 11, 2012 at 11:14

Daniel, thanks so much for articulating this. I have been saying ever since the Arab Spring started that Muslim radicals would end up int he driver's seat, under the guise of free elections. I don't know how many times I have said to other chatters in my political chat room, or to others in forums that these dictators were no damned good, but that they were the only thing standing between people who wanted a free country;and Islamic crazies.. These dictators at least in some way protected the rights Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and other religions of those countries. Now it's a free for all to kill them, destroy their churches; and now as in the case of Egypt destroy the pyramids and any other monuments.

The people in these countries will not be oppressed by something far worse than the dictators. We saw what the Taliban did to the buddhists rock monuments. That history is destroyed forever. And we have a president who knew full well what was going to happen in these countries.
