Reader comment on item: Gaza's Not the Key, Philadelphi Is

Submitted by myth (Germany), Nov 28, 2012 at 06:05

An establishment of a corridor constitutes a sort of semi-siege, a "cold occupation" of Gaza. Hamas on the other hand wages a "slow-motion-war" by launching rockets against Israel. Signing a piece of paper, drawing first a line on the map, then a line in the sand, and finally setting up a fence along that line seems a weak option to me. Israel has earned damaging media coverage in the past with technocratic measures like that. If Israel intends to patrol along the Philadelphi line they should just do so and drop the diplomatic decoration. No lines, no fences, no declarations. It is essential that Israel demonstrates they are going after Hamas operatives, not after territory.
