Turks against war

Reader comment on item: Ankara at War

Spot on,most Turks do not want war with Syria, those who want war are mostly sunni ideologues who oppose Shia Iran as much as they oppose the West. So these sunni ideologues ie the Islamists whose more extreme brothers are the Taliban, need western help to get rid of Assad,no wonder nothing is what it seems in the ME.

On the other hand the secularists mostly believe, whether rightly or wrongly, that the West is using Mr E and his party to do the Wests dirty work in the ME.So the secularists who espouse the enlightenment values of the West are basically antiwestern,no wonder nothing is what it seems in the ME.

The only friends West have got in Turkey are the tiny group of social liberals who are known in derision Mas liboshes or dogs of imperialists. However when push comes to shove the reality sets in and economics ,geopolitics and the fear of Russian dominance compels the Turks to seek reluctantly Western alliance. This has been the case since 1945.

Mr Pipes, thank you for the article the last sentence with which I 100% agree
