Reader comment on item: Panetta Predicts an Israeli Strike on Iran

The basic question is whether Israel has any option except to attack. The threat (evaluated by risk and not certainty) represented by a future nuclear armed Iran is an existential "megadeath" threat. A passing inconvenience to world energy markets, or even the re-election of BHO is insignificant beside this threat. The rabid leadership of Iran is not susceptible to deterrence, unfortunately, or we would have already found that out. The only real issue is whether Israel will need to use tactical nukes to take out the bunkers under Iran's mountains, or whether they will do it with special service troopers after having taken out all defences.
