Reader comment on item: [Hamid Dabashi:] Columbia University's Hysterical Professor

Submitted by John (United States), Dec 2, 2004 at 02:07

Dabashi, CAIR and other American Muslims deserve a measure of pity for their plight. Their motives are usually not malicious. The fear of retribution is frightening in light of current events.

However, their accusations are outrageous. The deliberate slaughter of Jewish civilians in the name of Islam should not go uncondemned by any pious Muslim. The ordering of young men into suicide missions, blessed by Islamic clerics and embrassed by a majority of the people of the world's muslim nations, must be denounced by any compassionate Muslim.

Cries of American imperialism sound empty against the actions of America's enemies. Sept 11th, the rape of Kuwait, beheadings, assasinations and suicide bombings. Not only do they sound hollow but they are irresponsible lies.

Saddam Hussein wasnt a modern day Gandhi. He has killed more people than any other dictator for the last quarter of a century. Al-Qaeda (yes, they do exist) are not poor victims of American oppression. Their leader is a weathly man who turned against his own Islamic government. The hijackers of 9/11 were middle class Saudis who went to Vegas and watched pornos before their suicide mission.

It is reprehensible that Muslims would ignore the crimes commited in the name of their own religion. A beautiful religion that speaks of brotherhood and hijacked by mere thugs. If they love there religion will they do anything to redeem it?

In the end their own apathy shows them to be morally weak.
