Reader comment on item: What Is Israel's Next Move In The New Middle East?

Submitted by JACQUES HADIDA (United States), May 3, 2011 at 12:33

Thank you Daniel for this great overall analysis. I did read all 16 points you presented.

I do agree that Turkey should soon be part of the issue due to its possible neutral position. However one element none of the points raised is the sad truth that deep inside the Palestinians want Israel dead.

Can you imagine Israel callng Hamas and asking a meeting to talk about a peace settlement? Do you beleive Haniyeh will accept? How can he, if Israel is an entity he does not recognize.

So as everyone will tell you , you need someone to talk to to achieve some results. And as long as that does not take place we are back to square one. True we need to reopen talks since it is the way to move but will the Palestinians understand this ?

The problem is cultural before being political. It takes two to tango and the Palestinias refuse to dance, maybe it is against the Koran to dance with the ennemy or even a stranger.

Indeed , one more time it will be again Israel to add to all previous concessions but untill when? When all we ask form them is to be recognized. That does not cost much. but it does not look like it. I am affraid the world does not care anymore saying, let them solve their problems wich is something America should have done before entering all these unnecessay wars.

Fifty years from now, the next generations will be laughing at us for the way we handled our problems, not being smart enough to solve them
