Arab uprisings, democracy, and Israel

Reader comment on item: What Is Israel's Next Move In The New Middle East?

Submitted by Jonathan Usher (Canada), May 3, 2011 at 11:23

The uprisings have little to do with democracy and everything to do with the eventual promotion of Islamism. The term democracy is only used by the protesters in order to receive western support. The answer for Israel is not to seek reconciliation but to recognize that there is no difference between Fatah and Hamas in that both have the ultimate goal of destroying Israel.

Israel should promote unity between Egypt and Gaza and simply annex the West Bank or split the West Bank with Jordan. Peace comes through strength, not through appeasement and grovelling for a peaceful solution.
