The Netherlands doesn't want a First Amendment

Reader comment on item: Western Civilization on Trial: Why We Should Be Watching Geert Wilders

Submitted by Paul Wilders (Netherlands), Feb 10, 2010 at 15:58

Please bear in mind, the vast majority from the Dutch are not in favor of implementing a First Amendment and in fact are pleased and happy with the legislation as it is. Dutch law provides freedom (of speech for example), and provides protection against abuse from this freedom (art. 137) as well. It's regarded as a perfect balance. So in effect, in Geert Wilders' case, court will decide if or not Mr. Wilders is guilty as charged. As polls show, 80+ percent from the Dutch are quite happy with this system.

Best regards,
