According to Wikipedia, which is not the authority on everything, they wrote, regarding MesoAmerica: (0) were used as a zero symbol for these Long Count dates, the earliest of which (on Stela 2 at Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas) has a date of 36 BCE.[

I've read where the date goes back even much further. Although they say, the zero from India developed separately, the ancient Mexicans had the true zero first.
