I find it very, very disturbing that colleges and universities are following Europe's lead. As an ex-pat who's lived for almost 20 years in a European country, I've come to understand what the university system is like here, especially in the country where I live.
Anyway, Dr. Pipes' concerns about professors having job security, benefits, and little or no criticism, while not needing to be accountable to the public, has been all too true here for decades. That's why they can say and/or do what they want without any negative consequences. If the USA is to avoid a similar fate, something must be done to stem the tide as the European university system is lost, not just temporarily astray, in my opinion.
