I'm A Muslim
Reader comment on item: Pipes' Dreams

I'm a devout religious muslim. i was born in Pakistan, raised in the USA, and have lived in Canada for nearly 6 years. and so i believe it's safe for me to say that i "somewhat" understand the views of both the west and islam.

i probably shouldn't have told you i was muslim b/c now you've most likely already decided on what to believe and what not to believe of my words. but i'm still going to attempt to get my view across.

Yes, there are bad muslims in the world...but there are just as bad christians, jews, sikhs, hindus, secularists, liberals, and "others". I believe bad persons to be recognized through their human actions. and these actions cut across a variety of religions, races, and ideals...not just one. i would like to ask for you to please be "Open minded" to the best of your abilities when it comes to "any topic" and yes that includes Islam. you might ask why i'm such a devout muslim when i've seen the conservative nature of islam in Pakistan, the rational liberal view of the States, and the melting pot of cultural ethics in canada. When clearly conservative islam doesn't work. I would differ on this view.....i'm a living breathing example that a muslim can be conservative and a rational member of a secular society without promoting violence and hate.

I thoroughly enjoy being muslim and wouldn't have it any other way b/c i believe in it. I believe that islam is the truth. I'm devoted to this faith tradition just like a sikh, hindu, christian, jew, and buddhist would be to theirs. to get the islamic view across it is clear that the ideas of the Holy Quraan-ul-Kareem, the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the messages of peace, love, compassion, and perseverance are not working. but here i try again. and again i would like you to please be open minded..... don't label me until you haven't even listened to me. be open minded, the definition is "Having or showing receptiveness to new and different ideas or the opinions of others".

I'm not trying to make you muslim or get you to hate muslims. I'm trying to give you an understanding of why i believe in islam in hope that you would learn to respect my people. well here... you don't have to read this....I've received some positive and some negative reactions, if you think you're going to have a negative reaction just stop....please stop.....don't go to any of the sites...stop b/c your bound to misinterpret what I'm saying......just go back and read what i just said again....or even a third time........ May the mercy and blessing of Allah (swt) be upon you.

As-Salam-WaUlaikum
