One of the dilemmas of this modern exploration of how Western Civilization got 'crossed' up while attempting to defeat the overwhelming oriental influences on 'western culture' was, as is now becoming more observable in this search of philological roots of the written record, the intellectual basis of determining what was the true record versus what was the rewrite by the victors of the region.
Your observation of the real translation of the Quran is making more sense now as the reality of religious overtones became the basis of rewriting history in order to establish superior rights to conquered lands, a typical dialogue/diatribe to support efforts of colonialism, Middle Eastern style; an intellectual's planning portfolio for becoming ruler of the world.
Now the Iranian Islamic Regime's model of the 'ummah' makes sense. Unfortunately for them, a different plan is already spelled out and is being fulfilled for more compelling reasons.
