Interesting article, considering that on the day this appeared, Hanan Ashrawi appeared at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven CT.
The Women's Studies Department invited her. The SCSU press release was full of praise for her.
"We are delighted that someone of Dr. Ashrawi's stature has accepted our invitation to speak here at Southern," said Rosalyn Amenta, co-chairwoman of the SCSU women's studies program. "She is a feminist and a strong advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She has made significant contributions in trying to achieve that goal. "
SCSU claimed that " Ashrawi is an advocate for human rights, as well as for the creation of an official Palestinian homeland and for the establishment of democratic reforms. She opposes the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and advocates both peoples living together peacefully."
Not a word about her anti-American statements, her praise of terrorism, or her extremely anti-Israeli stance.
Considering the leftist totalitarian slant of many Women's Studies Departments across the country, inviting someone like Ashrawi to give a canned speech on women in the middle east is a no-brainer.
That the campus administration went along with inviting her, and releasing a misleading press release, (quoted almost verbatim in the New Haven Register) is a disgrace. Then again, maybe they had dollar signs in their eyes. The auditorium seats 1,500 people, and they were charging $15 a ticket. Somebody made money last night.
