Lawrence of Arabia

Reader comment on item: The War on Campus

Submitted by Michael J. Murvihill (United States), Sep 20, 2002 at 09:40

Dear Mr. Pipes,

I possess a video of the movie "Lawrence of Arabia," which I pull out once a year to enjoy. If the portrayal of Arabs in that movie is only half-way accurate, it shows how impossible it is for Arabs to adopt the liberal values of tolerance and perseverance necessary for them to enter the modern world. As long as Arab states finance and encourage the radicalized education Arabs and Muslims now receive, the Middle East will be a violent place, a source for political and economic instability caused by its desparate brutality.
