Reader comment on item: Why Israelis Shy from Victory

Submitted by Robert (United States), Aug 31, 2018 at 22:44

Dear Daniel Pipes,

Your analysis here is excellent.
For Example, what you say about those vying
for the position of Chief of Staff of the IAF
are reported on by the great Israeli journalist CAROLINE B. GLICK here:

Column One: The Generals' Revolt
https://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Column-One-The-generals-revolt-566201

But your use of the Military term, "Victory," I don't think is that helpful.

Non-Military strategies are far more effective.
An Airport and Sea Port for Gaza will give Palestinian Gaza refugees
the means of escaping and settling in Merkel's German, etc.
Israel's strategic "waiting" allows Shea Iran
to inflict further damage on Sunni Muslims which the Palestinians are.
While Israel waits strategically, Arab Spring is unfolding, slowly, in Israel's favor.
For example,Europe is learning that it has the same Muslim Arab problem
what currently inflict it - Muslim Arab Refugees who won't assimilate.

I think that if you look at the Global picture
you might see Israel "Winning" the non-Military War.

Only now does Israel have a Donald Trump pro-Israel President of the USA.
Just this weak we hear he's stopping the fund of the UN special agency
designed to keep Palestinian Refugee status Forever.

It's as though Israel needed to wait for Trump's Presidency.

I think what your article lacks is specific Tactical and Strategic recommendations.

I also think your not giving Trump and Netanyahu sufficient credit
for the Peace Plan they are working on.
I suspect that it will be
the USA,Israel,the Saudis, Egyptians, Jordanians,
imposing their Peace Plan on Gaza and the West Bank - without Abbas.

There is also the work on Syria with the aid of Russia.
Iran will be experiencing pressure to leave,
economical,and militarily.
And Greater Syria was also the home of all the Palestinians
during the Ottoman Empire period.
So maybe some of the millions of Palestinians
will SETTLE there - thereby somewhat alleviating their Refugee status?

There is also talk of reviving that 1950 Jordanian law
(still on the books)
by which West Bank Palestinians are Citizens of Jordan !!!
