hi phil,

yes you are right, unfortunately honor killings is still quite common especially in the eastern areas of Turkey where human development index is quite low and economic and cultural level is far behind the western part of the country.

As for Female Genital Mutilation there is no such thing in Turkey. This is mostly a North African tradition. The image and belief that FGM exists in current Turkey is coming from the times North Africa was part of our territory and most travellers visiting North Africa then has reported about this FGM issue in their memoirs as FGM existing in Ottoman Empire.

(what it says about kurds is also not True. my wife is kurdish and she has never heard of any such thing in her life.)
