In spite of Prof. Pipes' skepticism, Sharon is part of the present geopolitical conflict and is playing his part in it. No one could say he has any illusions about Arafat's standing, the Palestinians have played all of the cards in their hand, so they by sheer necessity must stand down. However... they still bluff and posture. Time has shifted to Sharon's advantage, not them. The war will be resolved in Iraq, its ultimate form still TBD. Bush's re-election has set the policy, not only in the mid east, but in the world at large.
