Pamela Geller's attack on Rick Perry

Reader comment on item: Why Chris Christie Will Never Be President of the United States
in response to reader comment: ... out of context

I agree that the Christie's actions and associations and the way he responded to criticism are sufficient reasons for having serious doubts about his suitability for any role at the national level.

However, Pamela Geller has written an attack on Rick Perry based purely on his alleged friendship with the Aga Khan (the leader of one of the most peaceful of today's Muslim sects, the Ismailis) and the fact that he gave a speech in the company of Grover Norquist! She even mentions the medieval Assassins (!) but says nothing about Perry's very strong support of Israel including this. Pamela's hysterical article is here .

I very much hope that Daniel Pipes responds to this. Islamism is certainly a serious danger, but those who try to resist are shooting themselves in the foot if they present even Muslims like the Aga Khan as a "sharia promoters" and condemn a staunchly pro-Israeli, conservative, Republican governor for simply appearing in the company of someone who is principally known for being an anti-tax advocate (even if Norquist does personal relations with people who may be Islamists, as is being alleged).

Daniel Pipes replies:

I agree with you that Geller's attack on Perry is irresponsible. The Aga Khan is a leading anti-Islamist figure and Perry's connection to Grover Norquist concerns taxation, not Islam.
