Self-evident contradiction in Quran

Dear Dr Pipes:

Accepting that Quran permited slavery leads to a major contradiction. If we also accept that Quran is the final and complete word of the God, we must wonder why God missed his last opportunity to categorily ban/abolish slavery.

It seems that either Quran is not God's complete and final message or God missed a major opportunity!
