Forget the law and let me as King do whatever I want. That thinking doesn't do much for those under the rule of the King who then fall victim to a King who can kill whoever he wants whenever he wants and eventually not even care what the popular opinion is about his killings. Not a very good place to live for sure, unless you are the King.
