Greeks long on memory, short on **sophia** (wisdom).Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza Submitted by Caleb (United States), Aug 31, 2010 at 10:38 Ha, Ha, "Constantinople"! What century are you living in, Ianus? As your comments illustrate, the Greeks are a nation of perennial adolescents refusing to face reality and accept responsibility for their own actions. Athens 2010 or Cyprus 1974, it's always foreigners who are to blame for Greece's difficulties, never the Greek people themselves. Yes, the **Istanbul** Pogrom of 1955 was a shameful act against an innocent population. It was one reason Prime Minister Adnan Menderes was deposed and ultimately hanged. It was, however a direct response to events on Cyprus where the Turkish minority--similarly innocent--was undergoing violent persecution by the majority Greeks who wanted the British out so they could bring about **enosis** with Greece. btw: More than one "generation" may be present at any given time. Thus 20 years is the traditional period though nowadays with people marrying later and postponing parenthood it should perhaps be lengthened by two or three years.
