What is Compensation?

Reader comment on item: Turkey in Cyprus vs. Israel in Gaza

I wonder what device you would use to measure the appropriate compensation for being displaced, raped, pillaged, and divided? What man or woman would not reject such compensation whereas, should they dare accept it, they would never be able to complain again. We would rather harbor our pain until justice, the only true compensation, is done. How easy it must be for you to put values on other peoples misery. It is obvious you have not lost anything much less having had it ripped from your arms and the tenor of your comment makes me question not only your ability to feel compassion, but your ability to feel anything at all. I have a resolution that would compensate the Greek Cypriots.

1) The army lays down their weapons and marches back to Turkey.

2) All land, hearth, and home are returned to their rightful owners.

3) Payments are made for the illegal use of these properties.

4) Forgiveness is asked for the complete and utter descration and neglect of our churches and graves.

5) A memorial is erected and dedicated to Talos Issac, Solomos Solomou, and the remaining thousands that were brutally murdered trying to defend property, life, and limb.

6) These resolutions are endorsed and adopted by the UN and the EU.

So I ask you...what are these simple requests worth to you in dollars/euros? Who would barter 36 years of deprivation for a monetary payout? Would you? No...the answer is "no" you would not and this is why you have no business assuming anyone else should.
