We were ready to call it a "war against radical Islam" on 9-12. The only thing that has changed is our President. On second thought, several dozen high ranking government bureaucrats have also shifted into the "protect Islam - all of it - at any cost" mode. The only thing I can think of that explains to sell out is the now rampant amoral philosophy that all cultures, all religions, all behaviors are equal and valid and worthy of protection, no matter how destructive or vile they may be.
