Reader comment on item: Ahmadinejad or Mousavi?

Submitted by Salah Ali (Norway), Jun 20, 2009 at 09:32

Iran is enigmatic. Like Turkey, it embraced Islam midway of Arab history. islam is so much confounded with the Arabs and stress is given 15 times in the Holy Qur'an on this fact. However, glorious pages in Islam had been the contribution of Persian scholars. Persia has also created what i prefer to term: Christian Islam. The sacrification of Ali and fatima are very much like the Trinity in Christianity. Twelfesim itself is a highly colourful brand of islam and it is aggressively counteracted and opposed by Selafi Islam and the Wahabbis which accounts to opposition between Saudi arabia and Iran and bring Iraq closer to Persia than to Saudi Arabia. But they are like Turkey an asset to Islam regardless of political differences and Selifism.

Mousawi is very much like Ahmadinajad. They are two faces of the same coin, and if the political regime in Iran is doomed, Islam will never end with the regime. I wonder why the West confound religion with politics, ideology with power. Islam is a latent power that is in the very grain of Moslems even if they are Americans or Chinese. it is a religion of the heart and it determines a definite family relations and shapes the society in a particular way. Even if the sacred is removed or displaces in space it lingers in time.

I write this to bring afore the fact that Islam is not something that can be obliterated or removed from the world, history, mind and hearts of the Moslems. Persia can return to secularism but can Islam be uprooted from Iranian society? Take Iraq for instance, Saddam was Secular. In Baghdad, Basra and Mosul< iraqis used to drink with English, Canadian and American colleagues everywhere and between a bar and a bar there had been another bar. I had so many friends with whom I used to celebrate Xmas and New Year nights dancing and drinking. Foreigners used to wander in Babylon, Nineveh and spend nights in 50-star hotels eating delicious Iraqi food for few dollars. now, look the mess USA made of Iraq. It brought fanatacism and darkness. Even secular baathist like me turned into Fanatic Moslems who would sidle with the devil himself to expel those aggressors. This is not to say that Saddam was a saint, Saddam made terrible mistakes..But it is wrong to force a regime change or force democracy.

The West is stupid in equating ideologies with commercial goods and pets' food. We have our cultural milio, traditions and we love our way of life. It is fantastic to sit together on Fridays with the whole family for a lunch of traditional Iraqi food. you have disrupted all that. We iraqi bemoan saddam now, if not for any thing, it is for holding iraq together, there was no Merlooks like Blackwaters or Yahoos like the killers who murdered both the contracters and the poor falluja people. Why all this mess.

I understand from your current interference with or rather meddling in Iran's election or selection an attempt at repeating the pogrom of Iraq, only to secure Israel. It is also immoral to keep brandishing your knife in the face of an a disarmed neighbour while preventing him from defending himself. Look at ... Libermann: He repeats BigBrother slogan: white is Black, War is Peace, etc. This time he says settlements on somebody else's land does not prevent peace with him. Najad is hailed because he counteracts such a hooligan at least by statement if not by action and it is this reason why Nasrallah and all revolutionary Arabs support Najad. We see Mosauwi as a miasma, a smallpox not because he supports the West but because he is supported by the West...So stop dreaming of the impossible!
