Progress is the only concernReader comment on item: Assessing the Iranian Election Submitted by edmond daher (United Kingdom), Jun 18, 2009 at 05:40 If a free man had to chose his own destiny, how would he decide it? Would he rely on divine intervention or would he use a more practical approach, one that relies on empirical evidence, which can only suggest that divinity does not play a part in a mans future decisions. There is little hope for free thinkers in countries such as Saudi Arabia or Iran, where the separation of church and state do not exist. The supreme leadership in Iran, the "Ayatollah', has convinced the populace for decades, of the ultimate need for control. It is based on this premise that the Shah of Iran as ousted, and the country plunged back into the dark ages. However, how long did they think they could keep this 'pressure cooker" at boiling point before it exploded? The result is what we see today, free thinkers and educated youth comprise the majority of the Iranian population. More than 64% of Iranian nationals are under the age 30 years old. It is my belief that a change is heading for the Middle East, and this display of dissidence on behalf of the youth in Iran will be the catalyst for this change. Groups like Hamas (Israel) , Jun de Shem (Egypt), Hezbollah (Lebanon), all born of this need to suppress and destroy ideological progressionists, will be faced with a pivotal decision very soon, 'get out of the way of progress, or get steamrolled by it".
