Shows the position is more than just a figurehead

Reader comment on item: Assessing the Iranian Election

Submitted by Bernardz (Australia), Jun 15, 2009 at 14:24

Just because one person holds most of the shares of a company does not mean the CEO's position is a figurehead. Just because I make the decisions does not mean my lawyer is irrelevant.

To the Supreme Leader Ali Khamene'i, the president represents the country both to the world and to the local population.

As the high election turnout and the protesters now shows show it means something to the people too.
