Reader comment on item: The Unthinkable Consequences of an Iran-Israel Nuclear Exchange
in response to reader comment: Err..No

Submitted by Straight_Talk_Luigi (United States), Jun 20, 2008 at 22:12

No Luigi...why would anyone with half a mind believe radiation would stop there.

I was being sarcastic.

Actually, it's because people who argue this issue are always emotional, feel empowered by the google search engine and as is the usual case when the uninformed make comments: they come across as ignorant and make fools of themselves and fail to see the larger picture.

Also...what makes you so sure Iran has nukes? Because Fox news told you? Or because the Israelis have been crying about how everyone wants to kill them?

Not everyone wants to kill Israel, but Iran wants control of the Mediterranean so it can use it's navy to bully oil shipments in the Persian Gulf, Suez Canal and the Dardenelles.

Iran doesn't have nukes, and everything that's going on right now are preventive measures. Hence the negotiations and military exercises. That is a left wing stance, I thought someone like yourself would appreciate that.

I happen to like FOX News, and looking at the ratings, so do a lot of people. It's kind of nice to get a balanced story for a change. I'm guessing you think it's all conservative, so I'll be sure to pass that along to Alan Colmes and Kirsten Powers, although they may arrive at the same conclusion I have:

You've never seen a FOX show broadcast in its full entirety.

Israel has had it's existence threatened long before Islam and post-modern liberalism were even conceived, because the Jews believed in only One God, and that was very threatening to all Israel's neighbors.

If you think that Iran is breaking new ground here, ha!

The REAL goal of the Islamists is to get control of the EU. Isreal? It's just a side-show. So is Palestine. Israel has a long history of successful war campaigns against its enemies, and I really think that Islamists see Europe and other liberals nations as weaker than Israel. Let's face it, they've tried EVERYTHING against Israel: full-scale war, terrorism, ideological undermining and demographic overwhelming (these last two were once pointed out by Dr. Pipes).

And Israel still stands today.

I wonder, does Fox news report on Israels hundreds of nuclear weapons and delivery systems?

No one does, because Israel's precise military capabilities (like every other states) are never going to be revealed to journalists, even by Jimmy Carter, as a matter of complex international integrity. Even if they were by some bizarre chance, the plans at least would change, and I would imagine the technology would too.

It's entirely speculation.

This started out with "nuclear energy" - then america, israel and the EU decided to change "energy" to "weapons" without any factual evidence.

I went to graduate school for energy engineering and policy and I've worked for the UN.

There is considerable evidence of what Iran is doing and considerable reasons for them to have nuclear weapons.

Ironically, Iranian leadership kill off every Western liberal if given the chance no matter how much you pander to their cause. You're not a Shia Muslim? You're dead. Simple as that.

Enrichment is not evidence by the way.

Actually, it is.

Wouldnt you seek new energy sources if you couldnt sell oil on the global market?

What are you talking about? Iran DOES sell it's oil to the rest of the world. Do you really think with gas prices as they are the planet can afford to snub Iran? NO WAY!

Where are you getting this nonsense from? It's ridiculous.

I would LOVE to help Iran develop renewable energy. Maybe they'd actually listen! I know most people over here don't.

Too much sacrifice, you know.

Wouldnt you safeguard the future by moving away from oil in preparation for when it becomes an extinct currency?

That's what I've been trying to do, but the right and left in the West doesn't care enough about it! We had 30 years of advance warning that something had to be done, and no one did anything!

Instead, all we got was a boatload of false claims on everything from global warming to fuel cells on the much of the far left, and now most of the right seems to be defending the oil companies!

The only reason it's happening now is because of high gas prices.

Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder if we deserve this. It really is more self-inflicted than anything else.
