Marrying your first cousin is disgusting to most people, and for good reason: There is a serious lack of genetic diversity.

I won't get into specifics, but people who marry in the family, as you accurately call it, run the risk of having malformed children. The risk of infant morality and child survival rates increases immensely when this happens.

There are many reasons why Islamic countries have not kept pace with Europe, well, most of the world hasn't until the USA and Canada were born.

The Judeo-Christian spiritual health factor, which is often overlooked because human secular leftists hate it (it promotes personal responsibility), was a huge motivator. This is one reason why so many Asians are converting to Christianity (Judaism is a little harder to join). Because they associate the success of the Renaissance and High Enlightenment with the principles taught by the old Prophets and Jesus Christ.

Another is Europe has a more moderate climate, and there was less emphasis on resource gathering, but I think you are right when you impress on here that Islam is just too conservative. I know of Iranians who are frustrated that research facilities are literally rotting in the desert as all the oil money goes to Hamas and Hezbollah and the construction of mosques.
