An Act of Faith

Reader comment on item: But He Was Good to His Mother

...The fact that these suicides are performed by seemingly normal, nice guys, who are ostensibly educated and not poor, is the strongest testament yet that their suicide is an act of faith, and not necessarily an act of hatred or vengeance.

Their faith is in following the dictates of jihad - to rid the world of infidels while at the same time assuring a place in heaven for themselves. They are simply following "the book".

The challenge to moderate Muslims is in convincing the Islamic world that the murder of innocents is not a guarantee of heavenly rewards- something that is not considered true by Wahhabists and other fundamentalist Islamic sects.
