So, what are our alternatives?

Dr. Pipes,

... If they are so dangerous, addressing root causes is not an answer, and you don't know which of them are dangerous and which are not (cheez, I feel weird saying this),... What should we do? What are our alternatives? Obviously, you don't have time to write an essay just for me, but maybe you've addressed this in one of your previous writings, and you can point me towards it?
