It seems like this article is a logical (and excellent) continuation of your Nov., 6th piece, "Do you believe in modernity?". In fact, I think it very poignantly addresses the virtually impossible, yet vital, task of "vetting" certain Muslim sub-populations.
It took me years to realize that there were some people who, incapable of compassion, who could smile in your face while stabbing you (literally) in the back. The thought that this could be a characteristic of a majority of some national population is truly staggering. Nevertheless, coming to terms with the reality, ...and dealing with it now, may be the only way to avoid the truly painful consequences if we don't.
But how? I don't think many of us have the ability to truly appreciate this problem, let alone have the tools to deal with it. Dr. Pipes, while you give me hope, there are still way too few of you.
