islam just an excuse to harm what was really his greatest torment
Reader comment on item: More on Naveed Haq, Seattle's Sudden Jihadi

I met Naveed through a friend of mine that went to college with him. He seemed like a pretty harmless, and decent guy that did have some fairly strong opinions about Americas foreign policy, but that wasn't his greatest source of personal pain and torment. In the time I knew him (about 8 months) he talked more about his difficulty with women than anything else. He was always having trouble meeting them, and I think he just felt really insecure about himself.
I firmly believe this was not a hate crime against Jews, but one against women in general. In my opinion he committed this horrible crime at the Jewish center in Washington, using religion to mask his contempt for women in general.
I hadn't spoken to him for about a year when I saw this on the news, but when I saw that his victims were all women, its the first thing that came to my mind. To talk with the guy, you would never know he would be capable of something like this.
